Ricordea?

I've seen them quite a lot. Not within the past few weeks since I haven't been to OKC, but I have seen them at ART, Wet Pets, Aquarium Oddballs, Ultimate Reefs, and Premier Aquatics this month. They are out there, you just have to be able to snag them quick enough. FWIW, there are a lot of people that trade in Ricordeas. BigScott for sure. I've got a lot of Ricordeas, but nothing available at the moment.

Travis, won't most of the stores bring them in if they know there is a specific interest?

Well, that goes for any livestock. But, yes is the short answer. If it helps any, Ricordea are a lot like SPS, commercial wise. You're only going to find really good ones at places that know what they are doing. Go up to a LFS that just gets stock in to sell, and they might get lucky at getting a pretty one in. Go to a LFS that knows about the hobby and their corals, and they will go out of their way to get some nice Ricordea. For example, I picked up this rock of R. yuma for $50.00 at Aquatic Resource Technologies (Thanks again, Gary)

is very nice. Agree with you about chosing which store and grabbing them when you find them.

You really have to know how to spot a healthy Ric versus one that is stressed/bleached. You could be flushing money down the toilet by accident.

Travis-

If I could get my camera to cooperate I would post a picture of a ric that...IMO...would make you drool!!!

It is pretty Pink with bright Lime green tips. I have had it for over a year. I saw one last month in Tulsa like it and the price tag was $50 or $60 for one half the size of my big one.

I know what one you're talking about. The body is usually purple, but will look pinkish when it bleaches a little. R. yuma, right? Here is mine.

There is a huge crackdown on illegal harvest of Ricordea in Florida at the moment. That may be why there are not as many in the stores right now. I have been talking to one of the anylists with the FWC before I harvest anything in October. Seems there is a lot of destruction with the illegal harvesting to the reefs this year. I also have three collectors in the area that have stopped collecting Ricordea until the FWC sets new rules in collecting.

Yes, Steven. That's true. I prefer to purchase known aquacultured R. florida when I get the chance. On the other hand, there shouldn't be a problem getting R. yuma anywhere since it comes from the other side of the world in the Indo-Pacific.

Wow, I had no idea there were any responses. I guess RC's email notification must have been having issues. I thought nobody loved me. :(

Believe it or not, I ended up finding some on eBay. I've never bought corals from there before, so we'll see how it goes. The part about the crackdown on collection is interesting, as this person claims to be a collector. The price was certainly right, $10-$12 per polyp and $25 total shipping. Even got an anemone shrimp for $6. They should be here Tuesday, I'll keep everyone posted.

Good luck, Colin. I would try to research the seller just to make sure that the collector is collecting from legal areas. Unfortunately, a lot of R. florida collectors aren't very "clean", and the fact that they are selling on Ebay makes me cringe. Eiter way, let us know how it goes, and post pictures
