haha, sorry I missed that part of your question cet98. The glass is 3/8", It is always recomended to go thick with rimless tanks but I was assured that 3/8 is plenty strong for my dims.

The tank was built by visio and I did pay a little ;) extra for those nice polished edges but in my opinion it wouldnt be worth buying a rimless tank without those sharp looking edges!!! :)

It was also real important to me not see any pumps or plumbing in the tank so thats why I went with the closed loop...now I just need to reaquascape and hide my 2" strainer

thanks tiger!!!...you just made me feel a million times better...:D
I am still in the planning stages of my new 52gal cube (24"W x 24"D x 21"H) and I based on the "glass safety" calculators on-line, I ordered (and received) 3/8" Starphire glass for my build.
I had heard somewhere on the RC boards that Elos uses 3/8" glass for their Elos 70's but could never know for sure as Elos is "understandably" protective of their designs and info...
So to see that your tank, which is wider and taller than mine, up and running successfully is a treat!!!....
Do you have ANY deflection in any of the glass panels???
Also, do you know what type of silicone Visio uses?...seems extremely well done...

thanks again!!!
and Happy Holiday!!!

nicely done Brandon!....very clever idea regarding the Vortech cords :)
You should give some specs on your set-up, like dimensions (and my personal fav...glass thickness!!!:D ) and component selections.
any pix of your sump set-up?....
more detail is always fun so that we can learn from each others ideas!!!...
thanks for sharing and Happy Holiday!!!

Cet98, thanks for the compliments!

The tank is a Glasscages standard 120 rimless (48" x 24" x 24"). The glass thickness is .5" on the sides and .75" on the ends. Here are some pics of the sump.

The sump was custom built by Marc Levenson (melev) with my designs. There are two drains, one to the skimmer section and one to the refugium. I can control the flow with ballvalves to both locations. From the skimmer section and refugium the water flows into the live rock chamber (with heaters) and then to the Danner Mag-Drive 9.5 return. I use the JBJ ATO for top off and the ASM G3 skimmer. Lights are two 250 watt Reflux 12k in Lumenbright DE pendants. I have the coralvue dimmable ballasts. I would have gone with Icecap E-ballasts but I like the ability to dim the lights.

For flow in the display I use two Vortech MP40w pumps and two Koralia 4's on the Koralia Wavedriver.

There is a total of about 170 gallons, 200 lbs of liverock, and 200 lbs of sand. The stand and light racks I built (and learned I am not a carpenter). The tank will be an SPS and Clam dominated reef.

Rimless tanks scare the crap out of me!
I get the horrible picture of panels coming apart...but they sure look awesome!

Keep 'em coming!

I just got mine last weekend:) It's a glass cages 24x24x16" and I am very surprised with the quality. They used all 1/2" glass and did an awesome job on the eurobracing on the bottom. The silicone doesn't look too bad either, they just forgot to trim the excess off of one side and part of the bottom. Nothing a razor won't fix.

glad to see the current economic recession is NOT effecting you so far
sweet, sweet set-up (too bad it's so small :lol2: )

Thanks for the kind words. :)
O.K. so i am showing off a little bit....I was drooling over this thread for a long time and now I'm so thrilled to have my new tank!!

SCHWEEET!!!

Center overflows for a true walk-around tank in a rimless style, The G-Man fixture really looks good suspended over the top. What an awesome centerpiece for your obviously beautiful house.

Congrats Summer!
What are the dimensions?

James

Thank you, James. I so appreciate your kind words, as you've helped me with past posts here at RC.
Dimensions are 72" x 30" x 24"

Glad I could help Summer. Your aquascape possibilities are so much improved with the 30" wide dimensions.

Happy New Year!

James

Easier in some ways because you can just reach right in when ever you need to do some fiddling. However, I noticed that I spill more water due to there not being a lip to catch water that comes to the top. I have to be very careful using my mag scraper.
