I just got this plumbed and running about 6 weeks ago. No corals added yet. Its a Glass cages rimless; I agree with the above post. There are some imperfections, i.e. glass not cut "perfectly even" and not the best silicone job, however there was nothing that worried me. If your a perfectionist, you may want the more expensive brands.

Thanks!!! It was the result of aimlessly walking around Home Depot for an hour trying to brainstorm.

Can you post more pics of how you hung the lights? What were the materials used?

Great Job! Looks nice!

I'm curious to get some feedback on a tank I'm ordering real soon. It's going to be a shallow rimless look-down tank for my acan and bowerbanki collection.

Lighting will be a 3 foot Solaris I5 LED light system I won at RAP and upgraded to the 3 foot system.

The dimensions I'm pondering are 3.5 foot x 2.5 foot by 20 inches tall. I'm looking at the extra 6 inches on the length and width so I don't have to have rock right next to the glass and so that I have some darker areas on the edges without light spilling over.

I'm waiting on my quote from Marineland/Perfecto for the custom size. It will be viewable on 2 sides and those will be Starfire and the other 2 sides will be smoked glass. There will be a corner overflow as well. This tank is going into a corner, so that's why I can only see the 2 sides. This will be replacing my 92G corner tank that is my nightmare to work on!

I plan on using shells or smaller CA reactor media on the bottom and I'll keep the DSB in the basement fuge.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The tank is for sale guys, PM me if interested. No 4 month wait. Tank is brand new as seen in pics on this thread.

Any suggestions or feedback from the members of the Rimless Club on my planned tank?

Sara look into real custom builders like miracles or AGA, sounds like a nice tank.

I was trying to keep the price in control is all. I've got the 268G filling with water now and I have to be careful as the hubby is not pleased with my constant outlay of ca$h! Any ideas on a ballpark of what one would run from one of the custom glass builders?

Well IME AGA perfecto and marineland prices for custom stuff is more than the custom only builders, that's why I mentioned it.

I'm trying to save you money also resale on a miracles or AGE would be much better.

Sara,

That size is such an oddball size and the smoked glass also complicates the matter. You might give Glass Cages a call and see if they want to quote it. They make very affordable smaller rimless aquariums like their 95G 4-wide (48" x 24" x 16") for less then $300 base price. Starphire front and sides on that tank adds $137 and they should be able to put the overflow ($75 with 2 holes) into the corner. So this size rimless/starphire tank for example is only about $500 to build.
I just don't know if they do smoked glass but they will do custom sizes. You will probably find they are the lowest cost option and they aren't exactly warm and fuzzy on the phone, but they build solid tanks at great prices and as long as you know what you want upfront and don't try to change specs or anything they are fine to work with.

Good luck,

James
