Here is my new rimless starphire tank. It is starphire on all sides. It is 36.5 x 26x 16.75 inches. It comes out to 69 gallons. It is made by AGE. It has an external overflow with two inch drains. One drain is for an emergency drain. I have a left back wall return. The picture below is from the AGE shop. I have started a thread on my build of this tank if anyone is interested.

Doc,

Why did you choose to design your tank with an external overflow? I like the design, just curious why external and not internal...my guess is it gives you more display room...but want to hear from you.

I PM'd you as well some other questions.

Do we really know how safe these braceless tanks are over the longhaul? I would love to get a small braceless tank for LPS and softies, but I'm very reluctant because I have two small children. Wouldn't a braceless acrylic tank be much safer if made properly(right thickness material)?

thanks for all the pics everyone. i am a new member of the rimless club and i love the look and your tanks have given me ideas to better present it. i just had my local aquarium builder make me a tank without the top rim. after he made it he said he'd never make another at the same price, guess he underestimated how much heavier it would be with the thicker glass...lol. i only wish i could have found one that used black silicone, i find it a much cleaner look.

so true bread man, thats why i thought 1" would be better then the 3/4" that others have told me would be fine.

or can i find a glass rimless for the same or less $$

i think the AGE and Elos tanks are built really well, I know my 1 inch acrylic 67 gallon from Envision will be unbreakable.

Aren't these tanks "trimless" and not "rimless"? I mean, there is definitely a rim on all tanks by definition. Just on these tanks, there is no "trim". Am I taking crazy pills?

Braceless/trimless/rimless (whatever you want to call them) tanks, by design are just not as durable as tanks with bracing according to a few manufactures that I have spoken with. 4 thin beads of silicone is all that is holding in a LOT of water in most cases. It can definitely be a recipe for disaster if there was a small mistake on the manufacturing side.

You will love the work James does. That is exactly who would be building mine if/when I do this. What dimensions did you go with?

Jim,

That is why I think acrylic is the way to go on a braceless tank. As long as it's thick enough it should hold for a VERY long time.

48x27x14 with a center overflow. but i made the wrong decision it should have been external.

I am pretty siked, my current tank has been taken over by mojano anemones i am going to be a hitchhiker Nazi with this tank.
