after finding out reinforcing the mooi unit i wanted to use as a stand would not work...it's in the works and will have to be built to spec...once the ball gets rolling on that, the tank will be ordered.

the "stand" will look simmilar to this....

What does everyone think about Glasscages Rimless tanks? I am looking at the 48x24x16 or 48x18x16 starfire rimless tanks. Also i plan of DIYing a horizontal overflow on the back if the tank, what is the recomended gap between the water level and top edge of the glass?

I was just about to ask that question because when looking at some of the photos i see some pretty large gaps and some pretty small ones between the top of the tank and the water level. Mine is near the upper end of that range with only about a 1/2-3/4" gap.

I have been playing around with lots of lights.. The Lighting you see in picture posted are 400w 20xm.. -- (clams loved it)
I recently desided to drop down to 250 HQI ballast.. The closest I have found to that color is Radiums.. but they are Dim to me.. I will see if I can get a pic of tank as it is now. 250 20k Helios/ 14k aquaconnect.. I also have some 250w 20k BLV (ushio) that are close to above..
My rock is in the fuge, as much as I could fit -with skimmer and return pump.. (a little in tank- for looks)

This depends on what you're using for flow. You can get away with 1/2", but you wouldn't want to use a wavebox or have aggressive upward flow with that little room to spare. I've seen rimless tanks with 4" or more, and I think it looks pretty cool. I personally use a wavebox and a closed loop with outputs that point toward the surface, and I have 3" between the bottom of the overflow teeth and the top of the tank.
