NO, that is not what I'm saying. AO's aquarium looks great, I just do not understand why AO does make overflows like this or if they can not then out source it.

I was wondering if you would get any surface skimming with the AO eggcrate type overflows?

I want to play... Just set up yesterday so it is a little cloudy and foamy. Already clearing.

Custom precision milled overflow teeth: ¼” x 1" slots, on ½” centers. Use reverse slope machined edges for less noise and fewer bubbles. Typical overflow teeth length are 1 ½” to 2 ½” with a flow rates for about 100gph per inch of teeth if the water level is all the way to the top of the overflow teeth. Most tanks have a water level a little lower, so these typical numbers above assume that your water level is midway to about 2/3 up to the top of the overflow teeth.

It is kind of strange that they use eggcrate, but you always have the option of having your own overflow made since these are custom built tanks. I know mine has the more standard overflow teeth.

The polished edges are a great touch. I made sure my tank had them when I ordered it from Miracles.

Oh, and one more thing. Where are you guys getting those pole to suspend you lights from?

Mine is 1/2 rigid electrical conduit - bent with a conduit bender (right in the store at Lowe's actually - didn't want to spend $40 on something I was going to use once) and Rustoleum primered and painted black.

Drilled a few holes, mounted it on the back of the cabinet with conduit straps (so it is height adjustable) and voila!

The hard part for me was finding the right bolt thread to match the Sunpod's mounting kit. It is an M10x1.5 (very fine thread).

Thanks! :D

I wish mine was only $40...I am using the Zeroedge lamptree. its expensive, but works ok. With all the nice looking pendants coming around there should be more options coming. I know Elos has one now too...

Actually, mine was only about $9.00. 2 ea. 4' lenghts of 1/2" conduit at $2.35 each + a can of Rustoleum. The conduit bender was $40. I used it there at Lowes and put it back on the shelf.... Apparently I wasn't the only one to do that. An employee walked by while I was bending and didn't say a thing.

very nice tank, do you have a build thread?

Thanks. No, I didn't do a build tread because I was busy with a few other things while I was building the stand and hood for my tank and didn't get a chance to take many pictures.

This thread is what got me really interested in doing my own rimless set up; there are some amazing tanks here. My only regret is that I went with glasscages for my tank, the work is isn't poor and I should have spend the $$ for a better set up. Perhaps in a couple years I'll get what I really want. Thankfully, I had plenty of livestock to put into my set up and all the equipment I needed, most of which is overkill.

Where do you guys get these made? I am thinking of getting two Rimless Tanks:

36"x36"x24" (135g) Display Tank
36"x36"x18" (101g) Coral Frag Tank

I really would like a rimless tank, though I can't seem to find the place to purchase from.

Well, I most likely will be spending a rather large amount on equipment alone, so not too sure. 1-2.5k For One/Both would be nice.

Steve,

Glass Cages is a viable option for Rimless. There customer service isn't exactly warm and fuzzy but they build a solid tank at a good price. It won't have the spectacular fit and finish of Elos or AGE but it still looks good IMHO. I have their 190 wide that I'm currently setting up and I like it considering the price I paid.

Good luck,

James
