Rimless biocube safe or Not.

Is making a 29 biocube safe. i know people that have done it but does it put alot of pressure on the tank? would it crack it? Is the glass thick enough to handle the pressure. i have heard everything from the trim does nothing to support the tank in the biocube while others say it does.

do you literally pull the plastic rim around the top off?? That would look sweet!

edit...I looked some up online, nice look!

I just did a GIS for that and man, now I kinda want to build one above my main tank and use it as a remote fuge.

I removed the rim from a bio-cube 29 while it was set. Very easy with no concerns regarding structural integrity. Started with a small hacksaw blade and cut the rim just outside of the rear chamber on both sides, careful so as not to scratch the glass. Then slide a Razor blade, the more substantial ones up the sides of the rim in order to cut the silicone seal. You will still have to "muscle" the rim off but once you get one side free it allows leverage to continue around. Then using fresh blades you can clean the black silicone off the glass. That can be a little time consuming to get it right The tank was lite with a 150MH rim mounted light. I thought it looked better rimless. Good luck. Ray

yea I'm starting to think about doing the same thing with mine I just cut out the back filter section because the tank was leaking from behind it, and before I set the tank back up I will have to look into making it rimless.
