Rinsing Chaetomorpha

I just had a question that I wanted to run by you guys. I have chaetomorpha in the bubble trap on my CPR BakPak, and it tends to catch an awful lot of detritus. I was wondering if it was safe to rinse it in freshwater (under a tap) or if doing so would damage or kill the plant?

Might not kill the chaeto but likely would kill the critters within (worms, pods, etc.)
