Rinsing new sands and the DROUGHT

I have close to 300 lbs sand that I need to rinse and I'll be damn so I would need your advise the best approach to save water. My lawn is brown and I enhanced faucets and toiled flush hardwares but rinsing the sands would be difficult. Any thoughts reefers? Cheers.

I could collect your RODI waste?

I just put mine in the tank, added water and used a couple of powerheads on high with a canister filter filled with floss.. stirred up the sand every so often.. took a few days but it all cleared up and still clear after I stirred up the sand some more

Rinse with rodi waste water then scoop up sand with a net or cup that has holes.

Strain out fine sediment and pour sand into tank through a long pvc pipe. Letting it enter the tank with the pvc pipe reduces tank cloudiness drastically.

Takes a long *** time but being green usually cost more time/money.

Thats what I did with my sand.

Where are you located and where are you driving from?

Im in san mateo if youre willing to pick up, I will be willing to collect my rodi waste water.

You're welcome to my waste ro/di as well but driving around plus cost of containers might be more than using tap.

You could approach a LFS but I think gas n container costs would be similarly prohibitive.

I think @Endertuturtle's way sounds feasible.

I used live sand so no rinsing for me. Only 60lbs straight into tank but took 1 day to clear up.

Not sure if i did this very well or not. But had to do a tank change out and needed to rinse the crap out of my 5 year old sand ... I used the old tank water to rinse the sand. The sand was in a fine fish net and i did it one scoop at a time. Left a few inches of water in the old tank. Stirred it all up, then scooped out with fish net, and used same fish net to rinse with old tank water and a couple 5 gallon buckets...

I think I saw this on ATM TV show, sand first then placed a plastic sheet on top of the sand layer then add water slowly.

Any thoughts?

You're talking about how to add water to the sand without disturbing it? Yeah that will work I think.

Doesn't help with cleaning the sand.

For me I also rinsed the sand by adding it in a bucket, stirring it around with my hand, and pouring out the water onto my neighbor's garden.
