I saved up to buy a really neat try-color orange octopus frogspawn from extreme corals.com. I spent $230 and what they sent me was a regular brown octopus frogspawn worth about $60. Not even a hint of the colors described and shown in the pic from their website! What can I do??

I have strong led lighting, nothing shows up under the blue :( I would post a pic but can't figure out how to do it without a URL

It will be better if you call them. I don't think anyone here can do anything.
This is from their website

Coral Photos

All coral and other livestock photos are taken under 1000 and/or 400 Watt 20K XM bulbs with a high-quality digital camera, and accurately represent the item in our tanks. We do not "photoshop" our corals (an unfortunately common practice) to make them look better then they are.

Please note that corals WILL look different from our photos under 10K bulbs or other types of lighting. We highly recommend the use of 20K Metal Halide bulbs for the best health and coloration of corals.

Coloration is also dependent on shipping stress, water quality and other tank parameters we have no control over - so we can't guarantee an exact color match in your tank. Rest assured however that as long as you have a clean and stable tank, most corals will retain or regain their coloration.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us at extremecorals@gmail.com or give us a call 972-757-9048. We'll do whatever it takes to make you happy.

wow looks like you got a regular octo spawn. Then again some of these pictures are photo shopped to bring out the coral colors on these sites.

1) I would ask for a return/discount because one of the heads is dead. I suspect that head was dead before it left their facility.
2) honestly, it looks brown in their pic. It sounds to me like more of an exaggerated description than the case of a switcheroo. At the right angle, lots of euphyllia corals look better than they do in real life. I don't know how much experience you have in the hobby but you'll find that euphyllia corals are very often described much differently than they look.

Good luck!

looks to me to be the same coral, just taken under extreme light differences. The better question is why would you want to drop $230 on a frogspawn? you will probably get some back for the damaged head but realistically it looks like this will be an expensive learning experience.

don't look the same

don't look the same

definitely the photos they posted on the website looks very different from what you have on your hands. It seems more than just the lighting conditions difference, it could be photo shopping which I think is somewhat unethical. Seller should post a photo how it really looks like. Not the same. sorry YOU LOST YOUR MONEY. Well $230 is not much, it is just $230, not like $2300 or anything like that, so get over it (lol, just kidding, I feel your pain man). hope the seller satisfies you in some form.

The photo looks like a brown and green octo..his picture looks like a brown and green octo...

This is what I hate..... they pretty much told you they either photoshop or are doing some kind of bs to the photos by their explanation of why corals turn brown. I'm willing to bet it happens a lot with them. Either that or its their shipping practices, either way I would never purchase a coral from them now. Thanks for the heads up!

Just by looking at all of their pictures posted it's all altered. You could easily tell by looking at a common polyp like a radioactive dragon eye or even eagles eye that they glow. What sucks is they give you credit but you wither have to spend more to get free shipping or pay out of pocket. Sad, I had credit with them probably 2 years ago and I didn't even use it cause of this type of business. Sorry about your experience.
