Riterri or Bubble tip?

Hey guys,

I bought my girlfriend a new anemone for her clowns and tank. I bought it from a person close by and not from a store, she swears she bought it as a bubble tip, and she's had other bubbles that have split..

The more and more I look at it, it makes me question if it is in fact a bubble or a riterri? It never split for her, didn't move a whole lot in her tank, and didn't "bubble".

I've had one person comment saying it looked like a riterri and I'm comparing it to many on this site and it looks like one. It's moved a bunch I the tank, sticks on the glass, right in the flow, hasn't bubbled and lost 1 tentacle.

Let me know what you guys think!

It's the bright pink one at the top: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339467991.738516.jpg

Many bubble tips don't actually bubble, and many don't ever split either. So neither of those is that meaningful to making an ID.

However, the tentacles in the top and bottom pics do look like magnifica. I can't tell from the bottom picture whether there are verrucae on the column. Sometimes they're subtle, but if it's a mag, there will be little dots.

If you keep conditions ideal for the anemone they shouldn't feel the need to wander. With mags, they are like a nitrate barometer (this is just info I picked up in my Mag thread).

For the OP, it looked like there were some dots on the column so I am going to say mag. Although, I could be seeing things. If it is a mag and your girlfriend likes it more than the others then I would suggest getting the other nems out of the tank as that may be why it is roaming. Multiple nem species in one tank is not a good thing IME. I had two BTAs, M. doreensis, and S. handdoni in my 125 last summer (came with the set up) and the doreensis was stung by the handdoni and later died. The handdoni was never happy with the BTAs so I took the handdoni out before another nem was killed.

I'll try and get better pics of it ASAP. It's done nothing but move since the second it was in the tank. Moved right to a power head. I'll check for dots as well, something I noticed is that my bubble tips when stressed or in too much flow the entire anemone would deflate, this guy deflates in "pockets" if you will, only certain portions of it?

But it's straight at the top of the tank, no other anemones in the tank. The only problem is its a 12 gallon cube, and I KNOW it won't last if it's a mag...

What can I provide to you guys to help the identification?

Here are some new pictures, sorry the camera isn't the greatest...

And my girlfriend says there aren't any verrucae dots on its base/foot...

Thanks guys!

The next step in its life is it moving to someone else's tank. The tank it's in right now is no where near established enough, or large enough!

Right on way to be a Responsible reefer not many people would think of the nem forst . Do you have a home for it already ?

Not yet, working on it now. I just know there's no chance it could survive in either of my tanks, or hers. I'd rather someone be happy with it rather than me kill it. I haven't lost much, but I've learned a lot more.

I live in the Toronto area of Ontario, if anyone is interested in taking this beauty send me a pm!

And the Riterri is now down at my LFS, hopefully going to someone who can support it.

Replaced it with a green bubble with pink tips and a small bleached with pink tips bubble. (it was a throw In with the green)
