i dont know if i can post this here just letting everybody know that RMS has a 20% off sale on everything i just bought some more clean up crew

It's a nice sale, but I just took a look a day ago and most of their fish were sick and their bubble anemone's were really bleached :( so I didn't get anything.

yeah livestock looks not to great but equipments good i almost didn't buy the crabs because the tanks weren't in clean condition

All I buy there is dry goods. Their FW selection is well maintained, but I've never really been impressed with the condition of their SW livestock. It could be their supplier, but I don't know.

I think it's maintenance. I mean there was cyano all over every tank :/ Sometimes their dry good are more expensive than other places I noticed. Like they want $80 for reef crystals?! are they out of their minds?! lol

I wouldn't beat them up to badly. I've purchased several livestock, fish corals and equipment and I've been very satisfied. You can sign up for their mailing list and they have sales going all the time! They've been around for a LONG time for those new who just popped their heads in for the first time!

I think what put me off for good was the $12/lb 'premium' live rock covered in chaeto and bubble algae with no coraline.

Why does anyone go to RMS? We have a handful of other quality marine stores in NEO

Exactly. RMS is a joke. Anyone who is on these forums should not be buying anything alive from there, your just contibuting to their poor husbandry and rediculous prices. If you can drive to RMS you can make it to AT or Salty.

What dry good are you guys buying from there? Last time I checked there wasn't a single thing they sold that my reef would benefit from.

I have a freshwater tank as well. RMS is where I started out in the hobby. I don't always agree with their advise and they could do a better job of maintaining the tanks. But all in all it's not that bad of a store. Their prices could be a little high, considering all the online competition they have! Running a fish store could get pricey so I don't blame them in that respect. AT and salty are great stores, but like every store, they all have their flaws..;)

FYI they price match for whoever thinks their prices are high..

I usually buy little stuff that isn't worth driving out to AT or Salty for like thermometers, filter media, etc. I also buy frozen there on occasion as they have decent brands of it. I live like 5 minutes from RMS so sometimes it's just not worth the trip to somewhere further away.

Like I said before, their FW tanks are well maintained and I've never had a problem with that livestock when I used to keep FW. Their plants are fairly nice too depending on the shipment they get, as well.

Their saltwater stuff looks like a combination of bad shipments and out-of-spec water quality. Every place gets a few bad fish in shipments (even salty and AT), but that really isn't their fault so I give that a pass. I can't explain the quality of their corals (a lot of them I see when I go there are either stressed or suffering from RTN), but i HAVE seen good frags there once. Someone may have traded some in, because they were all well fragged and mounted. Point is, I rarely buy corals from stores anyway as the selection usually isn't exotic as I can find through this board or more specialized businesses (like Tidalgardens). I don't think anyone really wants to buy Texas trash but I could be wrong.
