RO Advice

Hi All

Just want some recommendations of a brand of ro unit to get as mine is dying. I have recently changed the cartridges and its testing at 70ppm which isn't great. So thought I'd ask some advice before getting an upgrade unit.

Thanks

I'm using a no name ebay RO/DI It's only a month old but my tds meter reads the tap at approx. 240ppm and after the RO 25-30ppm and after the DI 0-1ppm. I'd say your filters aren't sealing well if your getting 70ppm on new filters

If you are asking about the filters, DI resin or RO membrane then I use the ones offered through BRS. Many others use the ones offered through spectra pur

There isn't any unit that "dies" replacement filters and or a new membrane filter should do the trick...sometimes people don't place there filters in the canisters correctly which can cause high tds...just be sure to find out the actual problem. We don't mind helping. Try taking them all out and reinstall them.
My opinion is you may need a new ro membrane...it's the filter that is on the top on its side.

Post your exact setup as far as how many stages and what not

I've seen people screw them in too hard and crack the housing, but they don't wear out over time. It's prolly worth looking it over to see if something is not put together right, or a replaceable part is broken, rather than buy a whole new unit.

Agreed. Even then you can buy a $7 housing off Amazon lol its pretty hard to break an RO unit.

I tried taking it apart and replacing all cartridges but it didn't help. It's a new ro membrane so that could be faulty. I have put the old one back in for now gets me down to about 25 tds.

It's a 50g per day3 stage unit it was very cheap. It did the job for my tropical tank but the tds reading was never perfect even when new hence why I think it's time for an upgrade. :)

Call up russ at buckeye hydro, he is a great guy and will walk you through the unit to find out what is wrong.

If you do need a new membrane look at their MAXR membrane, i just started useing it and am very happy with it, brought my tap water from 500+ tds to 4ppm before di

I just recently bought a spectrapure with the chloramine removal resin and really like it. Sounds like you could use an upgrade or maybe just want to upgrade. I think you would be happy with BRS or spectrapure, I see those brands touted most. Ultimately as long as the water ends up with 0TDS you are good.

Hope this helps.

The 90 gpd spectrapure was $135 for a refurbished unit. It wound up being cheaper than others because it comes with some things standard that were upcharges for other sellers. Like a hose threaded thing to screw it onto your water faucet, and a few other things. Shipping was expensive though, even for 5-day ground it was more than I expected.
