RO busted?

Have an RO unit which was originally rated for 25gpd. However the individual I purchased it from ahd changed the membrane and restrictor valve to a 100gpd unit. However I am lucky if I can fill a 5 gallon bucket within 4-5 hours. The membrane is only a few months old and the filters will be changed soon. Is it the membrane?

Keep the temp at 60-70F. The pressure should not affect it much, but the water will. My 50gpd can pump 5 gallons in 5 hours and some days 10 hours. In the summer time it will start to slow down and winter time it will speed up. Clean out the membrane by switching the two tubes at the ends. Let the water run for 30min. then switch it back to normal.

The feed water temperature and pressure both have a profound affect on the rate of purified water production from an RO system. We have a calclator on our website that allows your to input your temp and pressure and see what your system should be producing.

Colder water = less production
Lower pressure = less production

Assuming your system was running ok at one time, the most common cause of low pressure is clogged prefilters.
