What Container can I put my RO water when mixing / getting ready for a water change? Can I just use a garbage can or will I leach something into the water? I need a 20g bucket

Just for giggles, I'll share my stupid brute can story to warn future googlers

I was getting so sick of hauling water to my living room in buckets, I thought it would be a great idea to get a roller brute can (with the axel and 2 wheels - carpet :/).

What I failed to remember at the time is that 40 or so gallons of water is immensely heavy. So much so that tilting the can back to roll it did not feel safe at all, lol! So now it's just a stationary can that I paid $40 extra bucks or so for.

Thanks for the tip. Im getting a 90g tank so I only need a 20g brute can. I found a tough guy can that has a NSF #2 ratting. Thats for food. Ill give it a try and ship the roller. Thanks

If your rodi water is close enough you can use a pump and tubing to get the water to the tank.

Husband and I bought a scissor lift cart on wheels from Harbor Freight. We needed it to help us get the tank into the house and onto the stand, but it has paid for itself a hundred times over carrying the Brute from RODI unit to the tank. We have used it for so many things during this setup process that I think it was the smartest purchase to date.

We have used it for so many things during this setup process that I think it was the smartest purchase to date.

How are those carts? I'm needing to move the tank I'm building in my garage to my house. Its a 5x5 square and will weigh about 700 lbs. Do you think there will be room to raise it once it is on the cart? How high do those carts lift?

It works really well for us. It lifted the 88 gallon red sea display with no problem, goes up about 2 feet or so, it's at about full height in that picture. I think it was rated for 1500lbs. The little kick lever to raise it is smooth and easy.

The handle comes off to make a platform? Its not needed for it to function?

The handle does not come off, but we were able to keep the tank safely on it. It's about 3 feet long on the platform. There was a bigger size of this thing at the store too.

Thanks. I will go to the store and check it out. I think I can prob cut the handle off below the platform.

I've been using a 50 gallon Rubbermaid storage tote... I'm not sure if they are foodgrade/safe.. anyone know offhand?

Look at the bottom and see if it has #2 on the recycle logo. Also test your RO water after sitting in the tub for a few days with one of those TBS things or whatever they are called

They are not.

Brute is a Rubbermaid brand that is food safe. Other Rubbermaid storage/etc products are not food safe.

I was fairly sure one of my Rubbermaid products that I used for water storage to cook rocks was leaking phosphates into the water, cause once I moved the rocks into the tank I had zero phosphate issues.

Hmmm... Maybe that's where my phosphates are coming from... I'll check all that tonight.. and get a brute can this weekend anyways
