RO/DI accessory questions.

I think I am now set on the Typhoon system. Just torn on whether I should be the regular model or the III series. It is a 50 dollar difference, but I am not really sure whether the accessories are worth it. I know I would need the TDS meter.

But for 30 dollars more...

DI bypass. Suppose to extend the life of your DI cartridge.
and fast flush kit. Suppose to extend the life of the membrane.

Are these two fittings worth even getting?

If you use a lot of the water for other purposes, Like drinking making coffee, cooking,what not then the bypass should pay for its self pretty quickly. As for the membrane flush kit, Not sure about that one I have had a couple of pretty smart reefers say it aint worth it.

Like previously mentioned, the bypass is great if you use the system for drinking water (why would you not??). It is really nice to never have to run vinegar through your coffee maker. Plus for drinking, its the tops!

As far as the flush valve I'm on the fence. I dont use mine on my home system very often. I have a $10,000 computer controlled RO system at work that automatically runs a flush cycle every start up for 20 seconds. It REALLY makes me wonder what they know that some of us dont.

Both are good units but you might rethink your purchase and go with a Reef Central Sponsor.
Buckeyefieldsupply has a 75 GPD unit which includes better prefilter, better carbon block, a pressure gauge and a TDS meter for $161. THe only thing it does not have is the autoshutoff valve but if you want one they are cheap.

Filter Guys has one very similar for $160 which does not have the pressure gauge but does have the autoshutoff valve and again uses better filters.

Smaller micron rated prefilters and carbon blocks will extend the life of your RO membrane which extends the life of your DI resin and ultimately saves you money.

Those units do have better micron units, but the Typhoon has an extra carbon stage. Do you feel that these four stage units would still be better than the 5 stage unit.. even those the 5 stage has pretty large micron openings?

Two carbons are no better than one especially if they are both larger micron ratings than the single one. A 0.5 micron carbon block will run circles around a 10, 5 or 1 micron one as far as chlorine and VOC capacity. The 4 stage is a better deal unless you can get the Typhoon refitted with 0.5 micron carbons.
