RO/DI Autoshut off??

I think I've had my auto shut off plumbed incorrectly. I thought it stopped working, because it kept running waste water when the float valve shut off. So I bought a new one and hooked it up as I had it. Then second guessing my self I got online to see how it should be plumbed. I found a couple of diagrams like this one.

And that is NOT how I have mine. I have mine cut into the product line on the top and the bottom is the waste line...

Any ideas?

OK mine works the way I had it.
I got my new one on ebay for a great price $10 shipped. Theres not much that can fail, so I'll see how long it lasts.
