RO/DI Help

I am new to SW and have been looking into RO/DI units because I have been buying RO/DI water. I have a 6 gallon nano, a 12 gallon nano and a 30 gallon tank. I probably use @ 55 gallons a week for water changes and top off.
I was not aware at first that these units make 1 gallon of good water to every 3 gallons of waste water. I have been paying @65 cents per gallon for the water. I also pay for my water in my home. Do you think it is worth the money for a RO/DI unit? I ahve been looking into a few that I can also have a valve put in to get drinking water from and it would cost me @ $200 complete. Any input or suggestions are appreciated because I might be missing something as I have really no clue about these units except that they make good water!!
Thanks,
Vicki

Saving trips to the store is priceless! Actually i guess you could really figure out the gas, time, and water cost, but lets not go there.
