RO\DI Installation and Use Questions

I'm slowly accumulating the things I'll need to get my new-to-me 90g fish and soft coral tank up and running. On my list is an RO\DI unit. I figure that if I'm going to set up a system for filtered water, I might as well get one that I can use for drinking water also, so this will be a 2 part question.

First, this unit that I found on Amazon has a nice looking drinking water tap that I can install on the sink.

I've read in these forums that you shouldn't drink de-inonized water, but the installation diagram in the pictures shows the DI filter in line with the tap outlet. Are there any problems with that?

Second, if I'm going to use this with some kind of large container such as a Brute garbage can when I do a water change, how does this work? Do I hook a line to the tank somehow, or tap into the line somewhere after the DI filter? Or, is this not the kind of system I should be looking at?

Its "ok" to drink DI water..but in general most "T" off to the drinking water portion before the DI stage.. 2 reasons.. Most really don't like the "taste" of DI water and you will just blow through the more expensive DI resin faster using it for both tank and drinking.. So just drink RO and leave the RO/DI for the fish tank..

Of course you can modify any system to be how you want it by just moving tubes around,etc...and maybe buying a few more john gusset fittings from the local hardware store..


As to storage..
You just take the output of the DI and can run it right to a tank and install a simple mechanical float valve to shut off the water when its filled but in general is just better to use that as a "oh crap I forgot I left it on" safety feature and just add a normal valve to allow you to turn it on/off when you want..
and plenty of additional more automated things via a reef controller,etc.. but really not necessary..

you can always add a drinking system,etc...
the filter units are very modular and any part can be swapped out/added,etc... at any time..

Thanks for the hot tip mcgyvr! Sometimes I think that if I'd researched to the cost of this hobby I'd have stayed away. This really takes a bite out of it.
