RO/DI Question

My inline TDS meter is showing my TDS before going in my DI Filter as 001ppm, after the DI filter it indicates 005ppm.

I am assuming that I need to replace my DI resin - it is only about 4 months old tho'. I'm not making that much water - maybe 5-10 gallons a week. Is something else going on or does this sound about right?

if the cartridge wasn't protected from air (mostly CO2) when it was dry that greatly reduced the life of the DI. if you have a good DI cart w/ just 1ppm coming from the RO unit it should last you many many months even with heavy use.

Your water should be 0-2ppm after DI.. If you have 1ppm after your RO thats great...But really 5ppm is no big deal IMO.. If it goes up anymore change it.. Or if you just want 0 tds go ahead and replace it.. Di gets used pretty quick compared to your other filters.. It depends a little on how much yours holds.. With 1ppm source water from your RO your DI should last a very long time though..

TDS level rising after DI. Sounds like your DI is spent. As JetCat indicated earlier, CO2 in water affects the life of DI resin. If CO2 level in your water is high like in Madison, your DI resin may be spent in a few months. A cartledge (the same size as prefilter housing) full of DI resin lasts only 3 to 4 months for me treating approximately 25 gallons of water per week.

down here in the southern end of the state my DI lasts a good 4-5 months with a couple hundred gallon a week through it it's the sedement filters that have to be changed every few weeks.

This was replaced on 21 Aug 2007, this is what it looks like tonight:

Is the rusty red one your sediment filter? It looks like my spent DI resins.

200 gallons per week? You must have more than one or two tanks.

Yes. Keep an eye on your TDS values. If your value after DI is equal to or higher than the value of RO (provided that it's not zero), your DI is spent. The color of the color changing resins does not accurately tell you when to change the resin. It's only a guideline.

Yes that's the sediment filter, it has to be changed pretty regularly here even with their claims 'We've Got The Best Water Quality Of Any Place In The Southeastern US'. currently I've only got 6 systems up and running and just took a 180g offline a few weeks ago for some remodeling.
