RO/DI reservoir sensor

I'm building a water system so that I can put my two containers on top of each other and fill one up with freshwater, then dump it below to make saltwater.

I'm looking at either the Kent float/solenoid system or the purely H2O float/solenoid shutoff to shut off the RO/DI system coming into the top bucket.

My question is...I've heard that although when it trips it won't continue filling the container, but the water will continue to run and be wasted. Is there some method of turning off the water supply completely using these solenoids/floats?

Thanks.

Put the solenoid at the water line coming into the unit. Other wise yes, you will continue to run off waster water if you just shut off the good water line out.

While a solenoid would be the best approach that statement is not true.

A float valve should only be used in conjunction with an ro auto shutoff. If not, you'll simply push water out of all those jg fittings. When used with a shutoff it stops the water before passing to the waste side.

I personally still don't like it because the unit builds up pressure. So I do agree that an electronic float & solenoid setup would be best.

So if you put a solenoid on the clean RO out and close it off with water pressures still getting to it the waste water will cease running?I don't think that it will.

This is what I am doing. I got a valve from stcvalve.com. I have the 2P025-14 in 12VDC. I will wire it with 2 float switches inside the brute to where it shuts off the incoming water.

Also near the top of my Brutes, I will plumb in a bulkhead that if the solenoid fails, the water will just run out into my drain.

I also plan to add and ASOV with a float valve.

wire it like this:

Use this:

and this:

Hopefully that's 3 full systems that the water will have to get through to flood my garage.

Jed, the pressure shutoff is located between the pre-filters & membrane. Once it senses enough backpressure due to the float being closed. it cuts off water to the rest of the unit. Thus no waste water flow.

The float should only be used if the RO unit has the shutoff installed.

This is also how those drinking water units work with the steel reservoir. They certainly don't pour water down the drain while un-used.

But as I said a solenoid before the ro unit would be the best. Just hook to an electric float setup & your good to go.
