ro/di setups

i just recently bought an aqua-safe 6 stage r/o d/i unit.well i installed it today and got my supply water from my washing machine spicket, reduced it to 1/4" going into the unit.my drain water goes back into the washers drain.my question is,what pressure do i have to have in order for it to work.i dont get any purified water unless i crack the valve of the waste water.also is there any kind of pump i might be able to buy to get better pressure.im not sure if this is making any sense but i hope it does.thanks in advance.

where can i pick one of those pumps up.im going to buy a tps meter soon to see what my pressure is at.i know it cant be very high with the little trickle that comes out at the end

Jason - doesn't the system you bought have a pressure gauge?

I suspect what you might have going on is you are trying to operate the system with a flush valve completely open (which won't work).

We have all the aquatec pumps and switches and can advise you as needed.

i do have the flush valve all the way open.what should it be set to.i do not have a pressure gauge on my set up though.wish i did.ill start messing with the flush valve and see if i can get it to work.thanks.

In normal operation the flush valve should be closed. This should give you a situation where you have about 4 times as much waste water as you do purified water.

Pressure gauge add on kits are pretty inexpensive...

but dont you have to use about 3 gallons of waste water for every gallon of purified water...if i close the flush valve its not purifying the water or am i mistaken.

the flush valve is only for back washing the membrane, and it should be at a 90° angle to the part that it's attached to.

Yes, you do waste about 3 gallons of water for every gallon of clean water. This will vary depending on the temperature of the feed water and the pressure.

as far as the valves, i only have one that shuts off the waste water and the other is on the line going to the R/O from the D/I.

There are some flush valves that are closed when the handle is parallel to the tubing - most valves are closed in thiis position.

Should be easy enough to tell. Put the output end of the waste tube somewhere where you can see it. Position the valve in one position, and then the other. You'll see a very obvious difference in the flow when the flush valve handle is in one position vs the other. The flush valve is open when you see substantially more water flowing from the waste line.
