RO DI system Education

Newbee to the whole RO DI sytem World. What if I just wanted to have a a filter that produced RO so I didn't have to go to the fish store as often. I am not going to set this up directly to the tank. I have a faucet head outside the house, behind a mini bar, covered area with no true direct sunlight exposure. Could I use this as a source. What systems would you recommend, if I were to have up to 300 dollars as my budget? Does it need to continously pump the water into a storage tank? I don't need more than just a few gallons a day(less than 3).

Anyone of you locals have any suggestions, experineces???

In need of some education. Thanks!!!
Eric

Eric, you should really try to make it to the meeting tonight. The topic is RO/DI filters. There is another thread in this forum with all the detials. Please email or pm me if you need any more info.

I would suggest you buy a RO/DI unit that makes 50-75 gallon a day. You can use the faucet outside as a supply. You do not need to have the filter continuously making water. You could use a large trash can or such as a holding tank for the DI water. The typhoon III from air, water and ice (tonights speaker) would be a great unti for you to start with.

The Typhoon III is what I have and works great. Simple to install and was less then 300 bucks if I remember correctly.

I would advise you to attend the meeting tonight, it will teach you a loyt about RO/DIs.

I have a Typhoon III as well from Air Water & Ice. I got a refurbished unit for $150.00 and it works like a charm. Definately get a RODI and not just an RO.

I also think you should definately come to the meeting tonight. Walther is a cool cat with a top notch affordable profit with great customer support.

WPS makes water systems and most sell for under 300 bucks

they make a 3 stage ( carbon membraina nd DI stage) that sells for about 119

they also make one that have 5 or 6 stages and a pressure tank for 240 i think

contact them for some local distributers

i think beverlys used to sell them . they may still but im not sure.

BUT if you want the absolute best go with spectrapure they have given me nothing but perfect customer support ( and htey are an rc sponsor) ofcourse this comes at a price

Get a Typhood III, you won't regret it. Comes with everything to install and Walter will sit there and explain everything to you if needed. Its a 5 stage system for around 200 bucks. It even comes with a TDS tester.

Let me start off by saying THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my e-mail. I wish I could attend but I have newborn twins who finally made it home about 3 weeks ago and I have to help my wife, cause its just a lot of work. (LOL...just lost my man card, Its ok these our are first and worth every moment)

Does Walter service Miami Dade County? If so does he have a websight or a phone number? I'm located South by Atlantis Aquarium (LFS) near The Falls Mall.
My concerns are as follows.
1). This will be an outside unit, will the temp affect the preformance of the unit?
2). If you had to chose between the TyphoonIII and the Five-Stage SpectraPlus 2000â"žÂ¢ System, which one you go for? Does it matter?
3). How will I know that the water is "good" for use. Do I test it out myself?
See I'm worried I going to put this water into my tank and all hell breaking loose...LOL.
So basically I could also then create my own SAltwater as well? Hummmm. InstaSAlt, any brands in particular you guys use???

Thanks again to Everyone who has responded!

Walter / air water ice sells to anyone. They have a website, but we can't post a link here due to the sponsorship rules. Google the company name to find it.

To answer your questions:
1) Production rate is determined by temperature. Warmer water = higher production, but too hot can damage the membrane. Only a problem if you leave the unit out in direct sunlight on a hot summer day.

2) I would go with the typhoon (I've been using one for almost 2 years). Walter's company is based in Ft. Pierce, so it's a more-or-less local company. He offers great service, and generously donated about $200 worth of equipment to the club auction last night, in addition to giving away 15-20 blemished filter cartridges.

3) Walter includes a TDS meter with his units that you can use to verify water quality. I encourage upgrading to the inline TDS meter. It has 2 flow-thru probes, so it can measure your post-RO, as well as the DI output to see how the overall unit is performing. No mess, no catching water in cups, you just turn it on and read the numbers.
