RO/DI unit sitting for 8 years

So about 8 years ago I had acquired a nice 55 gallon reef tank and some supplies including an RO/DI unit. This was back when I lived in California. Now I'm in Chicago and have been since then.

When I left I didn't think about proper storage of things and so the RO/DI unit I had has been sitting in my parents garage ever since. I am going to have them ship it to me but am not sure if it's going to be good to use now or what I'll have to do to bring it back to life. Any advice? Thanks!

It will work but you WILL have to change the filters, membrane and di filter, water sitting in a filter for 8 years just creates bacteria and damages filters, good luck

I would also sanitize with a water/bleach solution. 1 capful of bleach to 1 gallon of water

Ok, thanks. Just looking a little at the prices for everything I'd need to replace and I might be better off just buying a new one after I pay for all the filters and what not and then add on the cost of shipping the unit out to me. I'll have to shop around and compare to see what my best option is. Thanks again.

Best option on a new one is Spectrapure - WITH a MaxCap.
Shipping will play a big part in the decision.

You can pick up 3 prefilters, a new membrane and DI for about 70 bucks or so, about half the price of new.
