All is not lost. You can still add the DI unit to your RO unit. Most of the sellers of RO units should be able to sell you an add on DI unit.
As mentioned, a TDS (Total Disolved Solids) meter will determine how well your RO unit is removing. The TDS meter should ideally read zero at your pure water outlet. Most RO units will bring down TDS readings into single digits or the teens. The DI portion of the filter would perform final cleanup and bring the TDS reading ideally down to zero.
