RO/DI Unit

Building an RO unit for two purposes: Aquarium water and drinking water. I see that BRS has a drinking water attachment. I know that it is okay to drink RO water (before the DI resin), but I don't think I want the $70 attachment from BRS. Anybody have it?
Last question is what does the water out of the RO unit taste like? Pure water, or does the RO unit give the water a specific taste?

I've drank water out of the whole system including the DI resin and it tastes like ... water. Unless your water is highly contaminated, I don't think you are going to be able to notice much of a taste difference.

I got my RO/Di unit specifically for aquairum water use, so I don't generally drink it, but if I did, I would probably just get a container and put a gallon or so in the fridge. You could even buy a couple of gallons of water at the store and when you are done, use that same container for the R/O water.

I read don't drink the DI water, but I don't remember why. IME, all you should need is a T and a valve? What is in the $70 attachment.

Deionizing just takes more stuff out (usually heavy metals). Perhaps what you saw was that what is taken out is beneficial to drink, so it is better to leave it in. But it certainly won't hurt you anymore to take it out. Unless of course you like Mercury and Lead!

check out thefilterguys.biz. Best prices...best customer service... and they have an solution for drinking water from your RO/DI system that does not cost $70. I have been ordering from them for many years now and couldn't be happier.

The $70 drinking water kit comes with a 3 gallon pressurized tank and a spigot to mount on a counter (I live in a rented house, so I can't modify the counters, but I could maybe still use it unmounted).
Does the water taste the same as tap water or does the RO/carbon remove the tap water taste? I HATE the taste of the tap water at my house...

I recently bought a ro/di unit and got the drinking water kit. I actually set up a tap in my kitchen for it (bought separate tap). My kit came with a ro tank (3ga, i think) to hold the drinking water. I've been real happy with it and you will notice a real taste difference in the water.
