Ok, Well i finally want to get a Ro/di unit. Sick of going to LFS and getting water and paying for it.

Was hoping to get a something around the $200-$250 range.

Heard of a Few units that were good the max cap by Spectrapure i heard is just about the best also heard the Typhoon III was good. Thinking at least 75GPH a day?

I have a Sink in my garage could it be hooked up there and then have the ro/di water go into my 55 gallon drum? maybe after i finally decide on one and order it i can get Steve to come hook it up:)

Wasnt there some kind of group buy for units over the summer? Dont remember anything becoming of that.

Anyone else interested in getting one? I know Spectrapure is one RC sponsor that gives discounts for group buys

I LOVE my A-W-I Typhoon III
I put my unit in the garage on with my washer water input, and the waste water down the washer drain. All I needed was the extra "Hose bib connection to 1/4 line" They will usually throw it in for free if you ask when you order.

It worked out VERY well and was SUPER easy to hook up.
Mention RC and I think A-W-I will give you a free float valve, that you can put on your 55G drum.

we just completed a semi-GB with me another member buying a Typhon III extreme and getting 5% off. should be here in a few days so will keep you posted.

i did the same thing as funman.... you can get an ??RO unit from John for like 175 if i remember right that does 70gal a day... thats where i got mine, pretty happy with it. They are under the frag tanks in middle of store

Thanks Trevor.

Think for the same money i'm looking at this AWI typhoon III there seem to be quite a few people using them and are very happy with them.

Do you know what brand John's units are?

Go to Your Reef and talk to Johm about Ro-Di... He can get you a 100 GPD unit for around 150-160 bucks

Man we just did a order from A W I .com that would have saved you and us some money. We ordered it already because no one else showed any intrest. :(

Johns are a 6 stage, have one myself. Buy yourself the inline TDS meter from Marine Depot and call it a day.......

I've been super happy with my thefilterguys.biz unit, with dual TDS meter and everything. I make my water in to a 44 gallon brute.

Heard really good things about the Filter guys Ocean +1 system.

From what i have searched and read so far there are 2 units that are standing out to me

Spectrapure Max Cap and the AWI Typhoon III

I just have the regular Typhoon III not the extreme.

I personally like the clear media chambers,
I know Mihn said he would have changed his sediment filter A LONG TIME AGO, if he was able to see it. By the time he did change it is was HECKA nasty!!!

The Spectrapure Max caps are also clear and it comes with Dual in line TDS meters. Its a bit pricey but i am really leaning that way

Would love to do a group buy and try and save some $$$

Why don't you guys just pick up a 5-stage from CostCo for $139.99 and buy the additional DI stage if needed (test your tap water for phosphates). These 30-50-70 GPD rates are not very accurate under normal residental water pressure, unless you're using a booster pump.

At least this way you can be sure you're getting a quality RO membrane that was MADE IN USA instead of some cheap crap liquidated from an eBay powerseller that dumps a container a week into various retail channels.

I have the Spectrapure Maxcap hooked up in my garage. If you want, send me a PM and you can come by and see one in person and how it operates etc. Also, what is your water source? If you are on well water, you may need to configure the cartridges a little differently to strip out CO2. But, you are probably on PCWA water over where you live.... ?

If you do go with the Maxcap (and it is great unit), you may want to calculate the CO2 content of your source water. I am on a well with high dissolved CO2 and was only getting about 150 gals out of one maxcap cartridge (that got very expensive!). So, I actually don't use the maxcap cartridge but put in an all-anion cartridge in its place to absorb the CO2 and so that I can recharge it alot easier than a mixed-bed resin cartridge. The end result is that my product water is still zero TDS.
Sorry for rambling, just something to consider that I found out through trial and error....
