ok, so ive decided im going to buy an RO/DI unit.

ive read that the water has to be ran through them at a certain temperature (like 65ish degrees i believe??) and this is where im confused.

the unit will be in the basement. theres two pipes in the basement, one for hot water, one for cold water. if i need the water to be at 65ish degrees, do i have to connect these two water lines? someone suggested a tempering valve on another forum, but then someone said i may not need it. i may be able to just hook it up to the cold water line if our water is around 65 degrees.

the logical thing to do would be go into the basement and figure out the water temp, but i figured i would ask some locals how they have there RO/DI set up before doing this.

any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi, Teen,
I read something about this on Melev's reef. If I can find the post, I'll let you know. But it was along the idea of extending the tubing leading to the unit and having them run through a heated bucket of water. If the tubing is coiled around like a garden hose inside the bucket, the temp will rise before the water goes through the RO unit. Sorry, that's the best I can remember right now...

Don't worry about the water temp. Hook it up to the cold pipe or the faucet and run cold water only. If the water is a lot colder than 65 (like during the winter) you may find that you get fewer gallons per hour from the RO/DI. No big deal. NEVER run warm/hot water.

Hot water will have more impurities in it that get picked up from your water heater. There are options (like the bucket of hot water) to temper the input water, but it's not necessary. Cold water alone through your RO/DI is okay.

For optimal ratio of water, I have read it to be 78. They sell inline heaters for this and there was a thread here about it (2+yrs ago).

ok, thanks for all the help. ill try running it on cold water alone, and if that doesnt work, the bucket thing sounds pretty easy.

thanks again.
