ok i have a question or 2 about ro/di wast water...it seems like i have more wast water coming out that filtered water.is that normal? and also how do i/can i test the filtered water to make sure its working properly? im not even 100% sure its hooked up right.it dosent look like any other ro unit i can find on line.it has extra tubes on top that have what i belive is granular ferric oxide in them...can anyone give me a hand with this please

It's normal to produce more waste water then product water with one of these filters. Some of them are more efficient then others that's why it's important to research first before you buy. Some might produce a 2:1 ratio or waste to Product water and others might do a 10:1 range. You might want to post a pic so we can see what you're talking about, but I suspect the tubes on top are DI resin. It's hard to say without more information.

a 4 gallons of waste to 1 gallon pure is normal :) You can measure with a TDS meter, some are actual handheld meters, some are less accurate inline ones. The tubes on top are most liekly DI resin, though it is not as effective having them horizontal rather than vertical. You can increase the efficeincy( less waste) by piggybacking another membrane(has drawbacks) or increasing the pressure, but that type of waste is normal.

well then it all sounds good so far! the tubes on the top of it are clear and are filled with super super tiny goldish colored granuels.ill get a cord for my camera and post some pics of it tomorrow...thanks for ur info guys :)

Its my understanding that waste to oure water is 3 to 4 to 1...so for every gallon of pure water your waste water will be 3 or 4 gallons...so thats normal....the waste line with have soe form of restriction in the line....is this what you might be referring to when you speak of the line filled with granuels?

What ro/di unit do you have?

im not sure what the model of it is it came with the setup i baught and the previous owner of the tank added these extra canister type tubes..all i know is its a coralife...the tubes filled with these little balls have blue end caps and a clear tube like canister...the little balls are about as small as micro bubbles like in a skimmer for example...super tiny..ill post some pics tomorrow.
