Ro Tds

I recently moved and have been using a 4 stage RO unit didnt need the DI stage at the time.

Now a few questions..

Have since hooked up my RO unit with all new filters... TDS from tap is 475, TDS reading after RO unit is 17. From what I see I should be ultimatly looking for a TDS of 0 but upto 3-4 is stil okay.

Honestly how high is a reading of 17 TDS?

I also notice that most of you guys have a TDS after the RO of 5 or less and DI stage makes it 0.

Would it be okay to just throw a DI canister on unti with a TDS of 17 without having to replcae DI resin to quickly or Should I be using some other stage(5th stage) RO to bring my TDS down firther before running it thre the DI stage?

Whats the highest TDS you would use in your REEF tank?

It all depends on what your incoming water TDS is. 475 TDS in and 17 Out is about right.
Mine is 275 TDS in and 9 Tds out of ro membrane
The lower tds going in the better. also try better pre filters this will improve your numbers a little.
The people that post with 0-5 TDS coming out of ro membrane have better water than we do

You can get a vertical add-on DI unit for pretty cheap @ Bulk Reef Supply. I don't see any problem running 17 to the DI. Got to work with the water your dealt.

The key, imo, will be regular changing of the pre-filters otherwise you'll likely cause the RO to fail early.

Looks likew you have a 97% rejection rate from your membrane - that's about as good as you'll see. You can add a DI add on kit - if you find you have to change the resin too frequesntly, you can get a kit with larger housings that hold more resin. What everyone considers standard is a cratridge that measures 2.5" x 10"

Other opions are 2.5" x 20"
2.5" x 10" (holds 3.25 x the resin), and
4.5" x 20" (holds 6.5 x the resin).

A standard kit like the one below includes refillable DI cart, bracket, fittings, tubing, and clear housing:
