RO unit has 100:1 waste-to-filtered ratio!

Any clue as to why I am getting such a bad filtration rate? I can justify 10:1, but 100:1 will get me evicted.

I would vote for the quick-flush valve as well. Most newer RO units have them and they need to be closed to make the proper backpressure on the system. There's no way you should be running through 100g+ in 2 hours.

Thanks. I posted there and here at the same time. It took 10 minutes for the residents of that forum to rush to my rescue.

Electrical I can do. Plumbing scares me, though.

The open flush valve basically lets the water run straight over the membrane to clear up any build-up, so if it's open, output compared to waste will me very low. Hopefully that'll fix it for you!

Scott, they say it's good to flush the membrane "regularly". As I found out, it's good to keep the carbon filters good because clorine eats thru the membrane if you dont.

Plumbing probably rarely kills, ELECTRICITY scares me!

Since we havent had a good hi-jack lately I'll try. So my water heater went out. $300 for a new one $150 for friend of friend to install it. New one doesnt work... it was a $9 breaker (dual 25A and one side went bad) which I replaced myself in 5 mins. I kept the new one since mine was 16 yrs old. I dont like going into the breaker box but I've had to replace several over the past couple years since they too are 16 yro.

You should have given me a call, Don. I would have just charged you a few frags to help install it -- or one frag to troubleshoot your $9 breaker.

The RO unit works fine now that I took it out of flush mode and have the flow restrictor working in the system. It looks more like the 10:1 or less that I had expected.

Plumbing gets you in trouble with the wife more than an occasional electrical "pop" does.
