thanks

dahay78,

This is the one I have been using since Oct. 2012 - works great and is easy to set up. I have it set up in my laundry room with a Brass 2-Way Restricted-Flow Water Shut-Off (from Lowes). Also, I have a 32 gallon brute trash can that the RO / DI water is stored in with a BRS float valve (which is a must for no spills or overflows).

Also, if you don have a laundry room you may want to look at this one from air, water and ice - I believe it is portable and can be screwed into a sink facet or hose spicket.

i think that i may order this unit, asi can set it up in my laundry room. this one is perfect! again thanks so much

Keep in mind that you need an auto shut-off kit if you go with a float switch to stop the water to the reservoir, otherwise waste-water will still flow past the membrane (to keep it flushed clean) and down your drain. Luckily, they are relatively cheap and easy to install.

This is gonna show how much experience I have with home plumbing and maintenance but....

In order to install that y valve would you have to shut off the water main to the home? I ask because I also rent and would not know where or how to shut the water off.

CT Grim - The BRS RO/DI Unit that I posted in the link comes with the auto shut-off already installed, so all he would need is the float valve. Also, most BRS RO/DI come with feature already installed ( I say most and not all - I think the only one that does not have an auto shut off is the economy version RO/DI unit).

MurphysLaw - No I just turned off the water in the laundry room spickets were the washer hooks up to. I did not have to shut off the main water supply.

This was the most economical solution I found plus you can call them directly and they will answer any specific question you have. The specialize in rodi for reef tanks. The replacement filters are also very cheap.

I think I paid $160 for the ocean wave plus (5 stage).

Cool! I didn't realize the auto shut-off was standard on the BRS model...definately a big plus. If you don't use one with a float valve, you waste a ton of water!

I am still doing a BRS order on-or-about Feb 1st if you want to get in on free shipping! ;)

I did the same thing when I hooked mine up.
I have the larger Typhoon unit from air, water and ice but any of the ones mentioned will work. I would look into a 5 stage if you are going to spend the money but that is just me.

I also want a water softener really bad but I haven't researched enough to find out if there are ones that can easily be installed and removed because I also rent. The water sofener helps the effeciency of the RO unit, and I'm currently having cloudy water problems that I attribute to the local water.

thanks to you all for the vast amount of information that you have given me. i think that i am going to go with the unit from Bulk reef, i will keep you posted, i am going to install it myself once it gets here!!!!
i will post pics of my handyman work installing the unit! i see trips to lowes again in my future lol,, t

They are a breeze install. Bring it into a place like ace and they will show you what t you need, ect. I went lazy on the drain line. Hot nail and silicon.
