Yea!Im pretty sure I have several of that kind of feather duster.

They have big long (like 4") soft tubes under the sand? And their heads are about 1" across? That would be great if you had them!

What area of Huntsville are you looking at?They are building nice homes everywhere out H431 over Monti Sayno in Hampton Cove,Big Cove and Owens Cross Roads area In the 160's up.I mean way up too!:D Im not far from that area.It would be kewl to have another reefer neighbor:cool:

I don't know what area yet -- I don't even know where those places are you mentioned! I don't want to be in a subdivision, or at least not the smushed up ones I have seen everywhere. I want at least a couple of acres, but not out to far. And under $200. Hartselle seems to be the best neighborhood so far, but it's still a bit far out for me. I found a GREAT property on a mountain above the Elk River, but it's about 20 minutes just into Athens. If I ever have to get up and drive into an office in Huntsville, what a pain that will be.

Madison isn't bad, either. There are many good custom builders and some sloppy ones as well.

I had just a few of the sand bed fan worms in my 120G until recently. About a month ago I added a yellow headed jawfish to my tank and I cannot find it now. Hopefully they will pop back up. On the other hand I seem to have half a dozen of them in the foreground of my 15G, which gets buried occaisionally because of my alpheus shrimp (the cute little red and white pistol shrimp.) They don't seem to fare really well when those bulldozers are around. How did yours do with the sand bed cuke?

Nicole, glad to see you back online and that you made it there in good health. Sorry to here about your loss of tank mates along the way.

Sounds like your living the California Dream............... to get out!!!

Alabama is lucky to have you, be sure to check back to So. Cal. from time to time.

And thanks, now I have another forum to check

I didn't have "a" sandbed cuke, I had hitchhikers. Little mini cukes, that always stayed below the surface. They seemed harmless and kept the sand bed stirred, and I guess didn't eat enough to put a dent in my sand bed life.

Perhaps the sandbed fan worms are Caribbean in origin, which is why east coast reefers would have them but not west coast ones? I don't know how I would have gotten them -- all of my stuff is Indo-Pacific. Very little from the Gulf ends up on the west coast, except for some fish and rics.

Interesting. I thought that the west coast people had everything.

As for the housing, if you try the north of 72W like Harvest, Monrovia or Toney area, you will still find a lot of wilder area without houses up against each other and you'll be still close enough to Huntsville. Are you going to be in the Research Park area? If so, try looking around the area close to or the north of Sparkman high school, too. In that area you should have a good access to Hwy 53 and Research Park Drive. These roads take you right into I-565 if you work in the other part of Huntsville. I'd look for the area close to a major road that does not clog up during the rush hours. University Drive is a nightmare. I agree Hartselle is way too far for you if you are working in Huntsville.

You can order it from the Gulf Coast collectors, but most people in So Cal don't bother. Too much good stuff coming into LAX anyway to mess with paying shipping. Also lots and lots of aquaculture going on.

So far I have pretty much seen utter garbage north of Huntsville. Either run-down or nice but overbuilt for an area full of trashy trailers and abandoned houses. The one exception was a good and affordable house, but had major drainage issues and needed maybe $10-15k (or more?) worth of re-landscaping to prevent the house from flooding up to the foundations... again! If I knew more about the subject I might lowball them (it's a foreclosure) and invest the cash in the place. I still may.

Maybe the good stuff just isn't for sale right now.

Sorry about the quality. My camera or me cant take good close ups.

If this is what you are looking for I see two I can give ya.Drive out!If not for the the fan worms, you owe it to yourself to see this area.I live 15min from Huntsville and 15min from Guntersville Lake witch I luv and so does my lab :D There is plenty of open spaces, fields, coves and beautiful mountains.Cainchristy one of our members has a awsome sucluded place atop one one of the mountains around here.

i live out in northwestern edge of toney, and our neighborhood is pretty clean (i may be the worst offender...no broken cars, but i still have leaves.. :( ) and the people are really friendly. we only have three streets, and half the lots are just trees. they are all about .5-1.25 acres, and cheap enough that you can buy two next to each other (many have already). it takes me about 15-18 minutes to get to work...longer if i dont go during rush hour (RUSH hour...as opposed to 'i have nowhere to go' hour). 53 is getting a great 2 lane expansion, and is getting faster already. i work over by research park.

i dont have any sand/fan types...at least not until i get one from buzz next time i'm in new hope...;)

The area I am talking about is north of Madison not Huntsville. Yes, the north side of Huntsville is pretty bad. But Toney, Harvest, Monrovia area is much nicer and sparsely populated.

Looks like the same ones, Buzz. I'll be knockin' on your door when I have a stable tank again!

I'll keep an eye out for that area. Actually, most of the area anyway! I saw a few homes in Toney (they were awful) but nothing has come up in Monrovia or Harvest.

Sounds like you and your reator are covering the wide range of the towns around here. When my husband and I moved down here from Cincinnati, we ended up building a house. Although there were a number of houses available, nothing met our expectations.

By the way, I found one my tube worm of mine in my 120G. It's where it used to be. I am glad it did not suffocate to death with all the sand piled up around it.
