RO Water Question Help Please

I had asked a question about RO water tasting funny, and every one told me that it had to be me.

Today the water has the smell of sulfer. I have asked other people to smell the water and they say the same thing.

The RO unit is a three stage I beleive. Sediment filter, carbon filter, and the membrain. I also have a DI that I use for the the tank water. The water that smells funny is straight out of the RO unit.

Any ideas.

some ro units have a carbon filter to make the water taste better, does yours have one? also its recomended that you change any fiter cartrages every 6months to a year for ro membraine.

well i guess if its non clorinated water ( carbon) and if bactiria got into it it could cause this

i actualy have that smell comming from my sinks when we first turn them on

what type of filter are you using TFC CTA or i think theres pvc now

It was a GE model RO for the house with a storage tank. I have a splitter with a check valve to feed the DI. Filters are only are only 3 or 4 months old.

I have well water if that matters.

I am thinking that I will have to a new RO/DI unit.

Drinking water systems should always have post RO carbon filter for final taste and odor control. RO will impart an odd taste without it. It only needs to be a small inline type like used for icemakers and stuff. Usually a drinking water system comes with on mounted on top by the RO membrane.

I cleaned the system as per the instructions that came with the unit.

It didn't come with a second taste filter.

I am going to take the system apart and clean every thing with bleach. I will flush every thing out very well and then put the membrain back in the unit.

If I still have the problem. Where should I buy a new RO unit. This system is rated for 10 gallons a day. I need to upgrade anyway to 50 or 75 gallons a day unit.

If the unit is in good shape just replace the membrane and flow restrictor and get a post carbon filter. Cheaper than a new unit. You will find the post carbon will probably take care of any tastes and odors by itself.

There is a pre carbon filter, but no post carbon filter.

I am going to take the membrain out of the system and clean the system with bleach. After a good rinsing I will put the menbrain back in and see what happens.
