Im looking for a place to purchase some RO water in the portland area for my tank. Not interested in buying a unit (for a while anyways). Ill only be changing out 2-3 gals of water a week so buying it wont be too bad for a while. If i upgrade to a bigger tank then Ill looking in to one.

maybe a LFS in your area? since Im not from that area, I really don't know, but....theres a few of us that get our RO water from a Hannaford or superwal mart from the culligan machines..something to look into. I would check thou if the RO machine (if you go that way) if it has any TDS in it..
someone correct me if im wrong.

lows and home depot both sell a ro unit for under 150 it will pay for itself in a year pluss 3.00g for gas why bother at a pet store that probably dosnt change their filters or i think some grocery stors sell it now

The grocery store machines never change their filters either. Unless you have a TDS(total desolved solids) meter, I wouldn't trust them.

I have been using distilled water for top-off. At 99 cents a gallon, and a gallon a day, I am considering creating some DIY distilled water...

RO is so cheap over the long run. I have a unit that makes 27 gallons a day. Get a couple of new trash barrels and then you won't be tempted to be stingy about changing larger volumes of water and you will always have water on hand just in case.

I have been looking at the RO/DI units that include a float valve and an inline TDS meter. The prices are not that bad really.
