I am new and would like to know if there is a general rule to the volume of rock and all other solids to water volume ratio? I have seen some tanks that lr and corals and such take almost more volume than water. Seems like the less water, the harder to maintain. Thoughts wanted.

Not really a general rule. Most people go for 1 - 2lbs of LR per gallon and around 1lb of sand per gallon. This way the water volume is usually around 70% of total tank volume.

Hmmm. The tanks ive seen sure seem to have more than 30%. Must be that the rock is so porous...Just looks like more.
