Rock Flower Anemone grabbed a mushroom

Posted this in the nem forum, but I'm going to repost here as I'm concerned it might be time-sensitive issue.

My Rock anemone grabbed a mushroom and won't let go! It's a standard plain blue (Discosoma?) mushroom. I have tons of them and they blow around the tank. The nem has a grip on it and I can't free the shroom by gently poking it.

Will the nem realize shrooms are not a tasty treat on its own or should I yank it out of there? I don't want to hurt the nem, but I don't want it to get soft coral toxins either.

If it had waited an hour or two, I'd have fed it mysis!

My flower nems will eat anything, but I've not seen them eat a shroom before! I'd try to get some forceps and pull as much of the mushroom out of it's mouth as you can. Flower nems are incredibly hardy and I wouldn't be surprised if it could eat the shroom with no ill effect.

I got about half the mushroom out, the nem seems to have eaten the rest. He seems none the worse for wear. Should I be watching for anything if he's not ok?

I've only had this guy for about 2 months, but if he's still this good at 6 months, i'm going to go crazy for RFA. They seem to be the ideal nano anemone!

thanks

They are great 'nems, but they can get large especially if you spot feed them. I have had 5 of them for several years and one in particular is about 8 inches across. It ate a 4 inch powder blue tang once.

I don't feed mine, they get enough when I feed the tank in general.

It depends on which ones you have.

I have about 20 of the really crazy neon colored rock flowers (collected 30' to 40' deep in the Keys) and they have all stayed relatively small (1" to 2 1/2") even though I feed them every other day and they are in a shallow reef tank with good lighting. I've had them for over a year now. On the other hand I also have 5 other rock flowers (collected 2' to 3' deep in the Keys) that are plain green, brown, tan, and off white that started out the same size and have already grown quite a bit in the 2 months I've had them.
