Rock Flower Anemone

Ordered 3 RFA online so I am waiting for them. They are my first anemone.

- Acclimate them by floating bag in main tank for 1 hour, take it out bag and place on surface for it to expel some its water out, then put in main tank?

- I can hold them bare handed or do they sting and I have to wear latex gloves?

- How long do can they live in home reef tank?

- Plan to feed them pellet food once in awhile but mostly have them feed off the lighting (AI Hydra 26 HD).

- On lighting Anemone should grow from Blues or mostly from White color spetrum?

I've had flower anemones for years and now have more than I've started with because they spawn. Anyway, so I will speak from my experience of this species (Epicystis crucifer). As far as acclimation, I would equalized the bag temp. to the your tank, then take 1/2 cup from the bag and add 1/2 cup of tank water to the bag. I'd continue doing that every 10-15 minutes until the specific gravity is the same in the bag as in the tank. Then I'd personally take the anemone out (with my hand, though you can use gloves if you want. My flower anemones have never hurt me with their stings).

Then put your anemone in the tank near or on rocks. They seem to especially like to attach in a hole or crevice in the rock. They will also dig into san, if you have a sand bed.

They will live as long as you, literally. That's assuming you provide adequate water quality. They like temps from 76-82, preferable undetectable nitrates, specific gravity of 1.025-1.027.

As far as feeding, occasionally feed fresh seafood. The seafood you would buy for yourself at the grocery store. They like fresh shrimp, fish, clam, scallop, etc. You can also buy frozen food such as squid, krill, mysis shrimp at the local fish shop.

They are a shallow water species and would benefit from the white light spectrum.

Where did you order them from? I've been wanting to get one since I started up. Has your tank been up and running for a while or are there no amount of time to wait to get one? Thanks in advance and can't wait to see the pics. Good luck and happy reefing!

Got them from vipreef.com. They have good selections. Got them today. Really like them.

They don't move and wander. Stay where u put them. Was tough getting one out of bag that was sticking to bag.

Don't seem to like strong current.

I have two Rock nem's. They were static for almost two months but when I added a torch coral in the same water column as the nem's they started moving and are now in portions of the tank that are les visible. They're big and hearty, love how they look under 20k lights
