Rock Walls... Pros and Cons

I built a wall and they can be high maintenance. I took it out 3 years later. And you can't get behind them at all to clean. My suggestion is not to do it and just get a blue or black background.
 
Paint the outer back of your aquarium and be done with it, the maintenance doesn't sound worth it. Will that sand hold in the water with flow passing by. You could paint the back silver and create a mirror effect
 
Not a fan of rock walls in most cases. They just take up too much space and most don't look natural to me. Now, if one were talking a very deep tank, say 48" front to back, then yeah; otherwise no.
 
im a huge fan of rock walls honestly. thats how ive always done my aquascape. thats about 17yrs now.... for me, when a wall is grown out with corals, it truly looks a like reef cliff...

I feel the same way and there are ways to prevent pests from getting into the tank in the first place.
