Rockford area reef club

I realize summer is pretty busy, I just don't want to wait too long to start to build something here. I'd like to have all interested come out on July 1st. A couple have expressed interest, but not being avalible on the 8th, and I know I can't make everyone happy, so the first meeting is planned for the 1st at 1pm. PM me for addy and such.

The goal of this meeting is to decide what we want to be as a group. I have a lot of ideas, but if there is one thing I have learned in my work life is a lot of my ideas..., well they suck and I need help making them better. That is where you guys, and gals come in. What do you want out of a club? I've been doing a lot of research on this and will continue to. Mid June I will send anyone interested a "newsletter" that will highlight the results of my research that can be used as a guide for our meeting. I encourage anyone interested to search out information as well. The more we know the better. If you are interested in coming or getting on a e-mail list please pm me your e-mail and I will keep you up to date.

Again I encourgae anyone and everyone to contribute ideas to the formation of this group.

Thanks

I'm part of the MARS group (Madison Area Reef Society) and i'll tell you what I like about that group.

It is very informal. There are no fee's associated with the group. We meet at someone's house once a month (usually a sunday evening). The host usually provides some snacks and beverages. People just hang out, check out there tank and tank reefs amongst themselves. We really don't do topics, but if someone has one, they can do it.

We don't have some of the perks that groups who charge money have, but no one complains and everyone seems to enjoy themselves.

Just some thoughts to think about.

I would be interested in attending a meeting. I live in Crystal Lake but I always love meeting other people with the same passion as me. LMK, I'm in for the ride!

Oh, we'll never have it at Rod's b/c he'll never have the place cleaned up! :D

Thats because I am always letting someone use my shop to build things and then paint them.. If enough paint keeps getting dripped/spilled, I wont have to scrub floors anymore

This all sounds good. I'm glad someone is interested enough to get the ball rolling.I will do my best to help if you need anything but summer is really hard for me. I will plan on the first and pm you for the rest if the info.
Thanks.

Just to keep you up to date...
I posted this on several BB to get input from as many people as possible, and I have gotten input from a ton of people, including a couple of key names in reef keeping. There is a ton of great ideas out there. I'll be hitting some local shops in the coming days to ask about putting up posters to help get the word out. I know lots have said they are interested, but I have only gotten a couple emails addys to create a mailing list for a mid June news letter of sorts. Should I just post that on the BB instead of an email?

Please add me to your list. I'm in the tiny town of Kirkland, Rockford or DeKalb is MUCH closer than the Chicago area. ;)

Thanks
Michele

Everyone PM your email addy to Rob. I'm anxious to get this party started!

Lots of offers to help, and I'd like to take some of you up on that. One of the things I think we should have is as much info on other clubs and what they are doing. This way we have several road maps to help us create a great club. If you want to help, PM or E-mail me and I will give you the names of a few clubs to research. So at the meeting you can give a breif overveiw of what club "X" is doing and we can deside if we want to do those things or not. Also getting into your LFS with a sign would be a cool "assignment" too. I'll have a flier put togethr today or tomorrow I can e-mail you and you can print it up and help get the word out.

Finally I was thinking for our first meeting so that it isn't all buisness we can do a siminar on drilling tanks. I've drilled several, both with hole saws and the dremal method. I have hole saws for 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1.5" and 2" bulk heads. So if you have a tank that needs a hole bring it with.

Only a couple more weeks till we go. Just a few notes on this.
I have had a couple LFS offer gift certs as door prizes. They are not in my hand yet, so no promises. However one of these shops has a very good rep and I would be shocked if he changed his mind when I am there to collect. The other I have no experiance with. And I hope to get more. As mentioned we will be drilling tanks, so bring them. And finally lets have a little market place thing going on. If you have anything you wanted to sell and where planing on listing on a BB bring it, you might find a buyer. And we have to have a frag lottery. Bring a frag and get a number. Numbers determine the order you pick. Bring 2 frags get 2 numbers, ect ect.
The location is my house 1pm on July 1st
4114 Queenann's Way
Poplar Grove IL 61065
Newwer house that isn't in all map programs. I think it is in yahoo maps. If you are haveing a hard time let me know and I will help get you here.

Hard to say as there was no RSVP, but looks like close to a dozen. Which I guess is a good start.
Gives you a good shot at the door prize:D
