rocks for attaching clams

does rock need to be completely flat? have tried using some of my smaller rock frags & clams dont seem to want to attach. but none of them are very flat. just thought i would ask.anything i can sub for rock

I just placed mine in a crevice on a piece of LR and they attched there. I have seen people use a piece of slate tile and even a 5 gallon bucket lid. How long have you had the clams?

I use large shells that I have laying around from collecting at the beach..that way easy to move around.

had 1 for 6 or 7 months. got 2 in past few weeks.. first one is 5 to 6 inches. have in rock crevice now, still has not attached. but opens well ,closes when anything gets to close & looks very healthy
