So I got some rock a few months ago now im doing my rockscape. I want you all to give your opinion of weather or not it looks too cluttered or is it ok? It has plenty of crevices, caves and overhangs for future fish and such. Its 80 pounds of rock in a 75g so I'm thinking I'm ok, but you yall help me.

Hello,
That will work and look nice once coral's installed.......Maybe try two islands off set each centered at 1/3 tank size from ends. This will allow lots of places for both corals and fish with giving some depth to your DT:) Food for thought!

Looks pretty good. From an asthetic perspective I might try taking the rock on top right in front of the overflow and moving it on top of the pile over to the right just to see if the height difference it gives you would look more natural. Just a thought.

@aquatron- I started doing 2 islands that kinda trail close to each other but ended up with this.

@box209- yea I plan on doing a mixed reef. I need to buy another mp40 then I should be ok.

@ggsteve- I tried your idea and it actually looks better more.... balanced.

Just remember that aquascaping is a very personal thing. Each person has a different feeling and opinion/likes and dislikes.

I personally like the look of islands better.

Like I said, it is all a matter of opinion and each person looks at it differently.

But then comes the other question, will this be a full reef tank or will be mainly fish.

After all of that I would watch out for dead spots behind your rocks.

I like but, Make sure you have plenty of room for corals I wish I went easy on the rock on my first build

Solid advice... I would consider aiming a Koralia 3 along the back wall to reduce the amount of detritus build-up. This will also provide a flow to offset the MP40 you already have, make for a nice turbulent reef environment

Thanks all I really appreciate it. As far as dead spots I'm hoping that the 2 mp40's are enough to handle any dead spots. If not then I still have plenty of older koralias from my old tank I can use behind the rocks. I was gonna put lps and sps in this tank with smaller type fish. Gobies, wrasses and community fish. Overall thanks for the helpful input.

I hate to be negative, but it is dense and cluttered. If you mortared the rock and built bridges you could open the mid zones and get better flow. The way it is now will collect detritus very easily. I would remove several of the big mid level rocks and use a product like Marco rock mortar to raise the pieces and thereby get improved low. Best of luck.

Too cluttered imo. I like to see a lot of substrate and open areas between vertical rock piles.

If you like the wall of coral look, then I think it is fine. I, personally, like the island look. I think you could make two islands by removing the two or three rocks in the middle of the tank.

Later,Adam
