I was thinkig about using the mortar. Is it hard to mix/use. I would use it but I would hate to have rocks stuck and couldnt move them again. I would luke to open it up more with bridges and such too.
Get some acrylic rods and drill holes in the rocks instead of using mortar then put them together using the rods, then you could at least remove the rocks later if you wanted/needed to.
If you like it then keep it. Overall to me it does not look too dense and with the openings at the bottom the fish should swim in and out and hang there.
Sit down and look at it for a few minutes. Now picture what you think the tank will look like in a year and finally how it would look in five.
If you still think that the tank is too cluttered though there are 5 rocks that seem to not fit as well as the others as in ok I have this rock so I am going to use it situation.
On the right half of the tank there are 3 rocks that stick up above the mp. The 2 most right ones look like they were placed on top so remove them and take a look. The third one is the top one that makes a cave. This could be a focal point if left alone or could even improve the flow of the rock structure if that makes sense.
The other two are underneath the return nozzle and it looks like you were going for height. The highest rock looks unbalanced. It would be bad if down the road it fell onto your corals.
Again good luck and see what appeals to you the most.
I like it. I do second the opinion, of flow behind the LR. My Pukani, is the middle of my tank and had to add a powerhead, to get flow on the backside.
IMHO, rockscaping is worried about too much. Yours looks good and in 2 or 3 years when it's covered with corals you'll hardly know what the rockscape looks like. I also agree that flow behind a LR wall is a very worthwhile thing.
Here is my 180g before the rock. The square 'S' pipes down the back glass are 'spraybars' that will be the return water from the sump. The pipes are drilled with small holes to spray up, down and out from the back glass.
