RODI and Chloramine in Tampa's Water?

I was about to buy an RODI system like maybe the typhoon from airwaterice.com when I happened upon some threads talking about how chloramine in tap water isn't really taken out by regular RODI systems efficiently unless it has a catalytic carbon stage and not just carbon blocks. (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=1477401)
Most RODI units don't seem to have the catalytic carbon.

Anybody have any experience with RODI with Tampa's tap water, especially Chloramine removal?

i dunno what type of carbon stage my RO/DI unit has, but i got it from FAOIS, John and his montly crew build their RODI units on the premises. Works great, 0 TDS, but i havnt tested the chlorine. Regardless my tank is doing great, i havnt noticed any changes in my tank besides the fact that i dont have to carry 100lbs of water up the stairs twice a week.

get a good ro/di and you will be fine with the water around here. we have been using it without a problem for years. get an ro/di from john at fish and other ichthy stuff. what they may or may not be telling you is the contact time with catalytic carbon needs to be long. so you would need say a 5-10ft tall canister of the carbon. and run it through slowly. then again they may not have mentioned the carbon does not remove chlorimines either it only really breaks the bond. it may remove the chlorine after break down but this is where the long contact time comes into play. john uses better filters than the normal water guys. spectrapure uses the same as john but you will pay the same as the cheaper guys getting it from john. 1/2 micron sediment and carbon block then normally a dow membrane and then purolite nrw-37 nuclear grade mixed bed di resin. the hack water guys tell you it won't remove chlorimines because maybe they're not using good media and membranes. test your water for ammonia and chlorine before and after your ro and then di. a pool chlorine test works just fine. if I remember correctly he is under $200 with a pressure gauge? you can also get inline tds meters from him for a good price.

paid i think 205 from john for my filter setup with the gauge TDS meters and extra DI resin with top notch filters thats hard to beat with a big ole stick
