rodi question

we finally got one and we were playing with it yestereday. we did the flushing per the instructions, etc. but have a question.

"usage says:

wait 1-3 minutes for the filter system to fill with water. with the valve closed, no water should come out of it or the waste water valve. it is normal for a small amount of water to come out of the waste water line initially but this should stop within 1-3 minutes. if it does not stop, it could mean that there is not adequate waste pressure for proper operation or that the automatic shut-off valve has failed.

open the vale on the output line. Water will start to come out of the waste water line. within 1-3 minutes water will begin to come out of the output line."

well, water never stops coming out of the waste line, and when we turn on the shut-off valve, we get clean water, but only about about "45" (which i'm guessing is gpd?), when its supposed to be 100.

any suggestions? are we doing something wrong? our water pressure should be fine and its brand new, so i can't imagine that the shut-off valve has failed...no water comes out of the clean line when its closed. thanks!

Dana,

100gpd is at optimum conditions which is like 70* water and 60psi pressure but dont quote me on those numbers. My suspicion is low water pressure. After reading your post I got off my behind and increased my home water pressure from 40 to 60psi because mine has done the same thing with brine water constantly running. Well, that helped me flood the laundry room yet another time but this time it happened a lot quicker. (I made a batch of make up water to see how much faster it produces) However, my undersink unit (which is different unit than what I use for my tank) still doesnt shut off. My undersink is fairly old so it may be the auto-shut off is bad or my filters are so clogged that it's dropping the pressure in the unit. I havent changed the filters in a long time - so long that I cant find the last set of replacements. Waiting on the bulk reef supplies order to get new ones.

Check your owners manual to see what the minimum psi is called for to trip the ASO. Put your psi gauge in front of the ro/di and let us know what the pressure is going into your unit.

Where did you end up getting your unit from??? Is it used??? Make sure that all the filters/membranes are intalled in the correct flow direction...

Also, you will always have a steady stream coming from the waste line so long as there is water pressure coming in... The directions you are following are setup instructions... After the unit is full of water, you turn the auto shut off valve on to check that it is working... If it is working, then the water from the waste line should stop... If not, then you're still receiving pressure from your water input which could cause flooding if you're counting on it to shut off when your container is full... More than likely this is due to a bad solenoid...

I hope that made sense... :D

i ended up getting the seachem pinnacle +. its a new unit. the guy already had one, then won this one at macna.

this is really all greek to me, i need to have richard read this, he's the equipment guy. we don't have auto shut off yet, just the on/off valve. its running, and i'm getting 0 TDS water, i'm just not sure if we're doing it right because its running at 45ish, and i'm still getting waste water even with the shut off valve is off.
