Rod's Food?

How do you go about feeding them? my baby percs at 2cm long eat everything. I put a small piece of the food in a small cup with water from the tank, let it defrost in there so it breaks up into small pieces and feed it to them with a turkey baster

I do the exact same process. I got the orange/red labeled Rod's and the pieces that don't get eaten are the lettuce stuff and some of the krill. I'll try and feed it to them again now, and some live brine maybe about 5:30. :bum:

I used to feed once every day, but now I feed them a bit of live brine in the morning, a bit of Rod's at lunch, and some live brine or frozen brine with pirulina for dinner. I'm very careful not to overfeed, though.

Can I buy this from any of the recommended online shops? I searched for a local seller of it on their website and there aren't any anywhere near me surprisingly.

Try Marine Depot. They have it online there, but it will probably have to be shipped overnight with ice packs which will cost a lot. I would suggest buying a variety of foods from your LFS and feeding it.

I feed my fish both Rod's and PE mysis and they love it. With PE Mysis my clowns will grab a big piece and feed it to my nem. It's cool to watch. :)

I got mine from reefs2go.com a sponsor on here. They offer free shipping on any frozen food order over $50.00

If you have a few people who want it i'd go there. They ship it with dry ice.

I got some pe mysis for the first time with my order of rods food and i'm alternating every other day. I wish i would have got some of this mysis sooner. Its high quality stuff. A few pieces and my poor clowns look like they are going to explode. My female is just starting to spit some at the nem but she catches it before it hits the tenticals haha.

Its 22.99 for a 6 oz pack at reefs2go

A question that was just asked to me was how long of a shelf life does it have in the freezer?

I had the same question and emailed rod last week and no response.

Anyone know? Besides its original packaging i also keep my frozen food in a ziplock to help fish off freezer burn.

Don't know. I would guess 8 months once you open it, but probably a few months on the shelf. I feed PE Mysis to my anemones. Maybe I should give it to my clowns!

anyone know why or what the ash is on the ingredient list?

I could be wrong, but my guess is the small ~1% of ash could be from the nori he adds? A few kinds go into the mix. I honestly don't know which kinds other than the common green kind. Good Question, maybe Rod himself can answer this?

Rod's Food:

1st Day - Clowns ate 1/2
2nd Day - Clowns ate 3/4
3rd Day - Clowns ate all of it. They especially love the 1/3" long squishy pieces of squid. They gulped it down in one bite, and I even felt the urge to eat some since it looked so good... but I didn't.

I rate this food 4/5 Stars

Good Job Rod! :fish1:  :fish1:

Marine Depot carries it.

-- edit --

Wow, didn't see the other posts here.. woah...

To add to my post then.. I feed rod's food once a day and all my fish love it! I add selcon or zoe to it every other day, just to 'kick it up a notch' in the amount of nutrients it has.

OK thanks. Hopefully with a diet of live brine, mysis, Rod's, spirulina enriched frozen brine, and marine cuisine they will be so healthy that they will just HAVE to breed. :)

Clowns under Rods Care Breed like bunnies.

his food got my maroons to start spawning, it is very difficult to replicate the diversity of food available to clowns in the wild, Rods food does a great job trying.

Well mine better turn into bunnies! I had to pay 20 bucks for that stuff! :rolleye1:
When they start to breed I'll let you all know! Back to working on the heater. :hammer:

The whole reason i wanted to use it was to prepare my clown to spawn. They are juvi's but i hop with two feedings every day and heavy skimming it wont take as long :).

I cant wait to see his breeder food that he has on his website.

They are eating all of the larger sized particles of the food now, including the veggies which they would have never eaten before. On weekends I feed them live brine soaked in Selcon in the morning, then at lunch I feed them Rod's food, then at dinner they get some more live brine soaked in Selcon. Selcon is some sort of omega 3 fatty acid junk to soak food in and it is apparently good for the fish. It is made by Two Little Fishies.

I use selcon to soak my mysis in.

Rods food has selco in it and it is a better version of selcon. The selcon we get it a watered down version of selco. Atleast thats what ive read and we all know if you read it online it must be true ;)
