Rod's Food

You have to break off small pea sized portions of the food.

Yes, you can make your own, but you have to make sure you use it up otherwise freezer burn.

I agree. I got some about 8 months ago and never used it all up because I use so many different types of food. It was freezer burnt a few months ago.

It is great stuff though. I tear off a nickel sized chunk or so, thaw it out and dump it all in. Haven't seen any other type of food bring out feeders on EVERYTHING as fast as this stuff does. Within seconds.

Only a few hours away from Chicago here. I just bought a new pack from a guy that got over there to buy some the other day. The fresh stuff works a lot better than the old pack I have. Fish go nuts for it.

i only have 4 fish and would like to try this food, but like some of you it will last me a long time, any way to store it better so it doesn't get freezer burnt? maybe cut up 1/4 to 1/2 of the bag and then store the rest in a food saver vacuum bag? would that help?

That's exactly how I store mine. I typically feed about a dime-sized portion every night (we only keep small fish, though). Sometimes a penny-sized. It's now the only food we give the tank, and it still lasts quite a while.

The fish used to be scared of me when I opened the canopy door. Now they recognize when I dip a bowl into the tank for some water to defrost the food, it means feeding time. They circle in a tight grouping waiting for the food to come! It's a dang frenzy. Almost as soon as food hits the water, snails and hermit crabs come out of nowhere to try to feed. Feeding tentacles on corals come out. It's quite a sight.
