Bump for the Aussie!

Onya Rod!

Thanks Matt. :strange:

Ok, time to share my auto water change system. ;)

To remove the water I simply turn a two way tap to W/C (water change) and turn off my return pump. As the water drains from the tank into the sump it then drains out of the sump, through the two way tap, through a 20mm poly pipe through my wife's kitchen cupboards and into the sink waste.

The two way tap;

The new water is stored in a 140 Lt wheelie bin in my wife's broom cupboard (Her idea :eek: )

I've got a 12,000 Lph pump that pumps the water up through the cupboard, through the roof and down behind one of the Sola tubes into the tank.

Water change done!

Cool huh? :cool:

just where will the brooms live ron! where will they live! ....no blummin consideration :P

ha ha jks :P

Edit: on closer inspection i do see quite a variety of hooks and brushes tucked just out of view - im wondering now where the mop is? Next to the tank?

Interesting...Do you have any images from the different hours of day? Concerning your solar tubes...This looks great

absolutely amazing. Very very clean, and looks so mature already. This has to be one of the best tanks Ive ever seen out of Austrailia. Cheers!

:rollface: Ha, ha, ha. No need for a mop next to the tank. The way I have designed it the tank can't overflow an the sump can't overflow. (Well, that's the theory anyway. :o )

I really like the look of the sunlight with T-5s. Do you notice if the corals under the natural sunlight grow faster or more colorful than the ones under the halides?

Simply stunning! I have yet to see a tank build so detailed and beautiful. Color me impressed!

Brilliant! :thumbsup:

It's hard to tell John. The light traverses across the tank as the sun moves across the sky. I have mainly SPS up high on the rock work which are growing incredibly fast. :cool:

Thanks Sunny and Hampton. :)

Ok, I've been tinkering with things a bit.........

One of the reasons I didn't want any equipment in the tank, especially pumps was this;

Dirty-Tunze.jpg

Anyway, I have put one of these in the frag section of my sump, but I didn't want to be cleaning it all the time, so I thought all I had to do was keep the light off of it and the coralline wouldn't grow on it.

Works beautifully!

Also, I wanted to keep the light off of the skimmer, so I made this;

It is Corflute. Very easy to work with and does the trick.

Rod, great ideas and implementation of the shrouds to keep light off the equipment :thumbsup:

#1 reason I don't run a fuge... makes algae grow everywhere in the sump! Problem solved :D (I still don't run a fuge but...)

Where did you find that Tunze? The bottom of the GBR? :lol:

how do you have success with your angels in this reef display?

Hi dustin,

I am guessing you mean "do the angels nip your corals?"

I believe that angel fish are very beautiful fish. I also believe that they are a lottery when you put them into a reef display. :eek2:

I know many people who have had angels that nip at corals, especially Acans, Trachys, Fungia and so on. I normally trial certain corals with an angel during quarantine. I'm also a firm believer in removing the coral rather than removing the fish.

My angels are very good really. The worst offender would be the Singapore. When he went into the display he nipped at some fungia and left others alone, he nipped at some trachys and left others alone. I simply removed the corals he liked to nip and haven't had any more trouble. :)

My White tail and my Majestic haven't touched anything ever! I've even got an acan in there and it surprises me none of them even look at it. :D

But you still have to take the impeller out to clean it every 3 months or so. Otherwise the pump will be stucked, no?

Yes, I still maintain it.

I so wish I could run a set up with natural sunlight tubes. Your tank is stunning!

I like the light shrouds on the behind the scenes equipment, great idea ... another one I'll be borrowing from you!
