Rod's Gyre flow, Natural light, SPS dominated Reef

The panels are a 1Kw system with a 1.7 converter (so I can add some more panels and upgrade later)

The power is fed into the main system, so it doesn't directly power the tank, but indirectly it does. I figure the amount of electricity it produces pretty well covers the tank's demand, well it's gota help)

It's first time I read this thread and I would like to congratulate you for your nice work and beautiful results. I also see we have something in common (the solatubes).
Thank you for sharing with us :thumbsup:

This thread is like a fine wine or scotch. The older it gets the better it gets. From someone trying to get everything together for his build IM AWE STRUCK. From an aquarists view its gorgeous. From an artists view its breath taking. If my 240 cube comes out 1/3rd as beautiful as yours has I'm happy anything closer is just an added bonus.
Time to find some solartubes also :)

wow, awesome coloration there Rod, a really nice set-up that you have.

I'm busy building my second tank set-up that will use sunlight as well...more like a tank in a green house.

Thanks Adee, good luck with it.

Here's my latest acquisition;

Sorry the photo is a bit dodgy, but the fish are still in QT and this is the best I could do;

OK, a small update.

I, like others was having problems with Bryopsis going nuts on my egg crate frag rack in my sump

My solution;

Clear acrylic 520mm x 240mm to suit my sump. Cost $20 and about 10 minutes to glue. :dance:

Great tank, amazing what colour you get from natural sunlight. The panel power also helps with the electricity. Your tank must cost you very little in the running costs.

Rod,
Obviously you're doing the reef tank thing wrong....
Vibrant colors like that and fat & happy fish are clear signs of neglect and disrepair on your part.

For the good of the hobby, you need to get out and sell me all of your stuff....really, its for the best...:D

All kidding aside, it looks stunning, hats off to you!

Nick

Hi Rod - fantastic concept - beautiful tank - you've done a great job!

One quick question - how do you find the navarchus? (well three actually :rolleyes: ) Did it settle well? Does it spend a lot of time hiding? Does it pick at your LPS? I would really like to get one but I've seen very mixed reviews.

Thanks

Alan
