No, I have no current plans to raise the offspring. I dont really have the room to set up a breeding station and I'd rather upgrade to a bigger tank than spend money on a breeding station.

Good luck with your breeding

when does the black appear on the onyx

when does the black appear on the onyx

At what age does the black appear on the onyx? We have some onyx juvi's and they are a couple months old and still only have their head stripe. They are a bit pale in color compared to the ocellarius juvi's.

We are raising the eggs from our spawning pair of onyx. We have about 25 that are 2 months old and they are much different than our experiences raising the ocellarius. Where are you located?

the first post I made on this thread was when I first got them...i think they were like a month old. You can see their progression by looking at the posting dates

the Gig died :(, planning on replacing it with a purple malu. Fish look good tho...playing with my new camera--> the male is almost there

Hey Taylor...very nice pics and fish too. I've had my Rod's Onxy's babies for about a month now and my smaller one looks like yours in the very first pic. How long does it take before they get the third strip?

The third stripe came in pretty quickly..I'd say wait another month or two and it should have filled in.

Those are some awesome fish! I am waiting to get me a pair. Can't make up my mind.

I love percs...I was torn between picasso's, onyx or snowflakes (i know these are occelarus). The price and availability drove me to the onyx. I love these fish

I have a WC percula that has colored up in less than 8 months and was in my Green BTA the first night. I think proper diet and nutrition leads to better color, not the type of anenome. Once the Nem knows that the fish hosting it is not going to harm it it stops stinging it, so the sting is not the reason they lose color.

As mentioned before. You are one of the rare cases in which your clownfish has developed darkness in a BTA. I have a feeling its because it's wild caught. Diet does not lead to coloration in terms of darkening.

IM(limited/personal)E with Onyx in BTAs, 90% ( 4 out of 5) colored very nicely. In some of my maintenance accounts that I kept, it was 75% colored nicely (3 out of 4). Then after reading/hearing of a few others stating that their onyx lost color while in BTAs, I witnessed first hand. I took an extremely dark pair to a maintenance account, and within 2 weeks, they were orange. .

I believe there are many factors to coloration of Onyx.
1)genetics
2)diet
3)host
4)lighting
5)tankmates ( they seem to color quicker when separated from their group of siblings)
6) ..,
7)...

Yea..i was super bummed this morning. I'll probably sell the male and get a new pair of clownfish. While I love the onyx clownfish..I think im gunna get a pair of snowcasso's or snowflakes.
